Palmy Classic, Palm Cove – Sat 28th & Sun 29th June 2014
Posted on June 16, 2014 by Melanie Blight
Cairns Tropical Far North Queensland is buzzing with sporting events lately, such as the Cairns Airport Adventure Festival that was held at the beginning of the month, which is a growing annual international crowed drawer. Palm Cove one of Cairns’ northern beaches was the host of the swim leg of this year’s Ironman challenge. Palm Cove is holding yet another fabulous sporting event, the Palmy Classic, aimed at bringing together the community for their chance to display their love of sport and all things fitness in a fun and friendly environment.
This event is open to the wider sporting community as well as surf lifesaving members, whilst offering competitors the opportunity to win a vast variety of fantastic prizes. The Palmy Classic is entertaining for the entire family, whether you are a spectator, participant, a serious competitor or simply in it for the thrill of it.
The Cairns, Palm Cove Surf Lifesaving Club is a not for profit community service club who are responsible for running a successful and competitive nipper, cadet, open and master’s program. The club are eager to run the event and watch the numbers grow over the up-coming years. The club’s eventual goal is to develop the Palmy Classic in to being acknowledged as the world’s premier endurance Life Saving races just like the Coolangatta Gold on the Gold Coast.

Over the weekend of Saturday the 28th and Sunday 29th of June, Palmy Classic will showcase ocean swims, beach races and the 2014 Palmy Classic Endurance Ironman. The event is expecting over 300 competitors overall, including Iron man greats ; Liz Pluimer, Shannon Eckstein, Tara Coleman and Zoe Heiniger, just to name a few of the notable Surf Competitors from down South.
