Opera in the Outback – 3rd to 5th October 2013
Posted on August 20, 2013 by Sophie Tabouel
The annual ‘Opera in the Outback’ (from 3rd to 5th October 2013) has become a much loved event here in Tropical North Queensland. Each year thousands of music lovers travel to the event to experience the beauty of the outback and the world class entertainment on offer. Three unforgettable days…
The festival is now in its 13th year and has become not only well known in Australia but all over the world with many people travelling from overseas to experience this unique combination of classical opera greats, beautiful outback setting, world class hospitality and abundant wildlife. The outdoor setting is absolutely magical and the outback sunset is one of the most mesmerizing you will ever see.
Undara is 275 kilometres south west of Cairns there is a sealed road leading directly there, so self-drivers should have no problem in making their own way. Although you can buy tickets for individual performances it is highly recommended to stay overnight; there is a range of camping sites available or why not stay in one of the beautifully restored railway carriages. This will give you the perfect opportunity to explore the region’s natural wonders. Undara is located in the Gulf Savannah and is famous for its lava tubes; these are the largest of their kind on earth.
The program includes theatrical performances from ‘Attori’ on Thursday 3rd followed by two nights of beautiful opera with ‘Opera Bites’ preforming ‘Elixir of Love’ on Friday 4th and ‘On This Day’ on Saturday 5th.
The event has been entertaining audiences since 2000 so it is no surprise it was voted ‘Best Festival & Event in Tropical North Queensland’ in 2009. Why not book your holiday and find out for yourself why this 3 day event is so unique.
