Kuranda Festival – 19th & 20th October 2013
Posted on October 11, 2013 by Sophie Tabouel
Our favourite village in the rainforest is celebrating 125 years since its official survey in 1888 and this year it’ll be double the fun. In the past the Kuranda Festival was a one day event, this year it has been extended to 2 full days of fun and entertainment for the whole family.
Kicking off on Saturday 19th October with the ‘Bash of the Barron River Raft Race’ – a fun filled event not to be missed… so come and watch the race from the picturesque river banks.
Enjoy free river cruises, tree planting with environment care, music and food stalls before heading back up to the village where the motorbike and vintage car show will be in full swing. A little further up the street local artists will have their pieces on display and there will be face painting for the kiddies. Kick up your heels in Centenary Park with a four band line up, ‘Black Rising’, ‘Ice Breaker’, ‘No Hype’ and ‘Snake Oil’.
Sunday 20th October the party continues, wake up with a ‘Poets Breakfast’ and join in the activities from 10am. The forever entertaining ‘German Sausage Eating Competition’ and the ‘Kuranda Undie Fun Run’ are the main events for this day. Keep the kids busy with circus workshops, face painters, magic shows, pony rides and local school performances. Music playing through the streets of Kuranda by ‘The Hot Shots’, The Lawson and Moon Band’, ‘The Sing Australia Choir and Capella group ‘Woyaya’.
