Coming to Cairns this August is a celebration of Queensland’s Indigenous Art and Culture.

Ranging from traditional to contemporary this festival offers an array of free exhibitions and performances to immerse you in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. From Wednesday the 14th till Sunday the 19th located around the local region will be art exhibition launches, concerts, markets, a fashion show and even a good old fashion cook off with some of Cairns top chefs.

There really is something for everyone especially with the free Big Talk One Fire concert at Fogarty Park on the night of Friday the 16th. Award winning musician Dan Sultan, comedian Sean Choolburra and a whole cast of dancers and musicians will be performing throughout the evening. Arts and crafts market stalls selling indigenous art directly from the artists themselves will also be open at the concert. More arts markets will be held at the Tanks (beside the Botanical Gardens) on Sunday after the concert and local icon Seaman Dan will be launching his book ‘Steady, Steady: The Life and Music of Seaman Dan’.

Grab yourself a program at local art centres and tour desks. Circle your favourites, write them in your diary and make sure you don’t miss this fantastic week of Celebrating Queensland’s Indigenous Arts and Culture in Cairns.
