The Crocodile Trophy 2013 for Mountain Biking Enthusiasts
This year’s 9 stage ‘Crocodile Trophy Mountain Bike Race’ kicks off on the 19th of October to the 27th of October with hundreds of riders camping overnight throughout the event at rivers, cattle stations, mining villages and rainforest. This year the public can now get a taste of the longest, hardest and most adventurous race in the World!
Stage 1 and 2 races are open for public entries with a range of classes and age groups.
The 1st stage is a lap race on the World Cup track located in Smithfield, 15 minutes north of Cairns.
Stage 2 is a 92km ride from the Cairns Esplanade to Lake Tinaroo which will take participants across the Atherton on the Tablelands plateau. This is definitely not a ride for the faint hearted!
The Cairns Mountain Bike Club will have lunch ready at Lake Tinaroo for the riders with an option to stay there as well to attend the Crocodile Trophy dinner! This is a great time to rub shoulders with pro-cyclists from around the world before they continue on to the next stages.
The next seven stages take the professional riders from around the world across the Tablelands up to Cooktown cycling over 1,000 kilometres to finish on Sunday October the 27th.
Come and cheer these amazing athletes at the end of each stage. The finish points include Atherton, Irvinebank, Mt Mulligan, Adams Dam, Maytown, Laura, Hopevale and for the last one Cooktown.
