Hold On To Your Helmets – 28th September 2013
Posted on September 5, 2013 by Sophie Tabouel
The ‘Far North Wilderness Bike Tour’ is on!
This event runs from September 28th to October 5th, this 8 day bike tour commences in Cairns and will take participants over 500kms through the stunning wet tropics south west of Cairns, camping at some of the most beautiful forested spots in the region. Riders will be supported by a crew who will transport their luggage, camping equipment as well as food to keep their bellies full throughout the whole trip. The bike tour route is mostly off road, through dirt tracks, rainforest areas and fresh swimming holes with some challenging climbs met with relieving downhill rides.
Some of the spectacular scenery visited includes Innisfail, South Johnstone, Mena Creek, Wooroonooran National Park, bush heritage listed Yourka Station, Herberton River Gorge, Ravenshoe, Davies Creek and Copperlode Dam. After a day of constant peddling, the riders can put their feet up, have a hot water shower or a refreshing swim and enjoy a tasty meal and beverage from the mobile bar and share stories of the day’s events. The journey ends back in Cairns with all participants enjoying a lavish dinner and a goodnights rest. The ‘Far North Wilderness Bike Tour’ will meet up with the start of the ‘Cardiac Challenge’ bike ride to Cooktown for riders who would like to continue on their cycling journey. This is not a tour for the faint hearted as it is asked that all riders have some kind of preparation and training before commencing.
Registrations are still open, so if this sounds like it is right up your bike riding alley log on to www.fnqbiketour.org.au/ and have the ride of your life!
Not only will you be creating buns of steel, the ‘Far North Wilderness Bike Tour’ supports the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre that fights to protect the regions wildlife, reefs and ecology.
