Queen’s Baton Relay – 4th November 2013

The Commonwealth Games’ baton will be in Cairns next month!
The Queen’s Baton Relay is similar to the Olympic Torch Relay as the baton travels around the entire Commonwealth before the commencement of each Commonwealth games.
The next Commonwealth games will be held in Glasgow in Scotland in 2014.
The baton carried by Mayor Bob Manning will make its way down the Esplanade boardwalk from Muddy’s playground to the end of the Sister Cities BBQ area where there will be a free breakfast for anyone who wants to join in the celebrations. The Baton will then journey out to the Great Barrier Reef, make an appearance on the world famous Skyrail Gondola before popping into the award winning Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park.
It is also rumoured that past and present Commonwealth athletes will take turns in running with the baton.
The Commonwealth relay kicked off last week at Buckingham palace and in just 288 days will visit all 70 territories and nations of the Commonwealth and will end at the opening ceremony in Glasgow on the 23rd of July 2014.
- Queen’s Baton Relay commences at Muddy’s playground at 6:30am Monday 4th November.
- Free community breakfast at the Sister Cities BBQ area on the Esplanade after the run.
