Cairns Beachfront Holiday houses and holiday homes

Machans Beach

The first beachfront suburb 5- 10 minutes north from Cairns City and the Cairns Airport is Machans Beach. This quaint little village has a hippie feel to it with the old style bungalow housing that dots the suburb. Machans Beach has a very strong social community and residents have their own monthly newsletter called Machinations that is put together voluntarily and delivered to every letterbox in Machans Beach for free to keep all the residents in the loop with the happenings in Machans Beach. There is also a communal organic vegetable garden that you are allowed to donate time to and reap the sowing of everyone’s seeds that are also donated. Each year on the new full moon the Machans Beach esplanade comes to life with the full moon festival. Again everyone donates their time to set up stalls to fund raise for the local Machans Beach SES (emergency services) and the community hall fund. On the night you can buy food and drinks and wander around listening to the bands and various merry makers. It’s a free evening’s entertainment and people come from all over Cairns to enjoy the atmosphere on the refreshing Machans Beach Beachfront
Esplanade under the light of the silvery moon. Other happenings in Machans Beach are the free events and live music put on at the Sports Club again for fund raising purposes for the upkeep of the tennis court and basketball court. They even put on a free Christmas party each year and all children receive a gift and a visit from Santa. The Machans Beach community hall is used to take out an elderly neighbour for coffee and a dance and socialise with other elderly neighbours that can no longer get around easily by them. Guests renting the holiday houses in Machans beach are welcome to join in on all local activities.
Local restaurants and take away stores for guests staying in beachfront houses or beachside holiday homes are all within walking distance.
Machans Beach beachfront holiday houses and homes vary from the just plain cute and cosy cottages for two to the more opulent luxurious holiday house that can accommodate up to 8-10 guests. Most of the holiday homes in Machans Beach have a swimming pool or a spa or a combination of both. Some are two storeys whilst others are single level. Most of the holiday homes in Machans Beach are located on Redden Island which is home to only 23 residential houses.

Holloways Beach

Similar in style and ambience of Machans Beach, Holloways Beach is a lot larger and offers more commercial facilities for holiday makers.
The beach here is patrolled during the school holiday periods and a swimming enclosure is available on the main beach near the children’s playground on the esplanade.
Holloways Beach restaurants are located right on the beach and on some weekends they offer live bands and entertainment for locals and tourists alike to enjoy whilst the kids play on the beach.
The holiday accommodation at Holloways Beach ranges from private holiday houses to bed and breakfasts, self-contained apartments and holiday resorts with management on site.
Holloways Beach is only a 10 minute drive to Cairns city and only 10 minutes to the Skyrail terminal at Smithfield making it a nice central beach location for a relaxing holiday.  Take a peek at some of the holiday options here.

Yorkeys Knob

Clifton Beach

Clifton Beach is a mixture of residential homes and holiday apartments that line the beachfront Esplanade. Palm Cove is definitely the most popular beach holiday destination in Cairns and Tropical North Queensland and as such some of the major international hotel brands have been attracted here to manage four and five star holiday resorts.
The Palm Cove village is only a very small strip that runs the length of the beachfront and is lined on one side by the ocean and palm trees and the other by giant ancient Melaleuca trees. The road down the middle is made from pavers and makes the whole picture just perfect. The buildings in Palm Cove have a height limit of three stories so no shadows on the beaches and no overcrowding.
You must take a look at Palm Cove for your next holiday but be sure to book in advance as this little village is very popular.

Port Douglas

Well most Australians have heard of Port Douglas due to its high profile developer Christopher Skase building the Sheraton Mirage Resort and The Marina Mirage boat marina in the mid-eighties. In the excessive eighties money did not seem to be an issue with too many people and developers were building all sorts of luxurious resorts and hotels which in turn attracted high profile business people and celebrities from the world over.
Today Port Douglas is still world famous and extremely popular but it now also caters for the mid-range accommodation and for large families, weddings and conferences. We highly recommend you consider Port Douglas as a destination to also consider for your next holiday in Cairns and Tropical North Queensland.
